For a country like America, the people really don’t care much about water tanks for the fact that they are a developed country with a great amount of water to supply them. We cannot anymore stress how water is so important and yet many would still not appreciate it until they are deprived of it. We now have a yearly celebration so that people won’t forget the value of water and we call this World Water Day. March 22 marks the date of internation water appreciation and it was set by the United Nations General Assembly. This celebration came to reality in 1993.
A celebration like this persuades all individuals to not turn on their water taps for this day so that our most important natural resource shall be saved. All countries should take part and the UN has different themes every year for the countries to get involved. A certain theme can be like the worldwide matters related to water.
For every country, the UN teams up with non-government groups. The work of these organizations is to gain the attention of the government and other people so that they are able to send forth their message about clean water and the preservation of aquatic life. The special discussion group called the World Water Forum has always been there for the World Water Council since 1997.
With the forum they discussed why many people could still not have clean and safe water. This is a sad realization, especially for the fact that water is taken for granted in wealthy nations. To solve this problem, the Council has made it a point that every country must have an annual report about the status of their water.
In recent years the themes were “Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge” in 2011, “Clean Water for a Healthy World” in 2010, “Transboundary Waters” in 2009 and a lot more. Much thought and consideration were clearly put into these socially relevant themes. The theme that is final will then be distributed among various organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and many more.
